The Facility

Azalea City Center for the Art’s proposed facility will located on Dauphin Street near Sage Avengue. It will include a 500 seat state-of-the-art theater with a fly system, LED lighting, and a mid-audience curtain converting the theater into a more intimate setting of 250 seats.  Additionally, the building will have a 150 seat Black Box theater equipped with versatile seating, staging, curtains and a light grid. The Center will also be outfitted with four large rehearsal studios, a spacious scene shop for set construction, a costume shop, 14 private music classrooms and ample homework space for after-school students. The East Side Studio will include a lobby and large rehearsal space that will be fully handicap accessible. The plans also include a playground and green space for the use of our programs.

A Diverse Group of Programs

Azalea City Center for the Arts was formed with the intent of bringing together arts groups for common purposes.  Over the years, the Center has been home to many music, dance, theatrical and fine arts groups. The Center is also utilized by other community organizations seeking extra rehearsal space, meeting rooms, or special events. Current Resident Programs of Azalea City Center for the Arts are Sunny Side Theater, Full Scale School of Music, and Maccrossan Irish Dance. The new facility will also house Mobile Theatre Guild and Dance Without Limits as permanent Resident Programs with Mobile Opera and Mobile Ballet joining as Anchor Performers who will use the space for productions. The partnership of these well known organizations demonstrates the need for a new performance facility in the Mobile community.

Enriching Our Community

The new facility will offer youth in the community who do not have programs at their schools or want advanced instruction in the arts an enriching environment to learn and perform. Additionally, schools wishing to develop their students’ artistic and literary knowledge will attend performances in our facility that can accommodate large audiences. The Center will grant more children the ability to experience live productions as performers, technicians, and audience members. Although Sunny Side Theater and Dance Without Limits both serve the special needs community of Mobile, there is no performance facility properly equipped to allow these students to demonstrate what they have learned. The new facility will be fully accessible from the classrooms to the performance spaces. All of Azalea City Center for the Arts students will be able to take the stage and enjoy the spotlight!
