School and Community Outreach
Traveling homeschool show performed at schools
Sunny Side Theater continues its mission by providing theatrical education to schools across Mobile County. The homeschool troupe meets once a week and brings their show and a drama lesson to schools ranging from Just 4 to Collier Elementary. Last year, over 4500 students saw their production and provided a way for kids to experience theater without the cost of getting on a bus.
MUSIC in the community
Full Scale School of Music hosts the only all-instrument music festival in Mobile where students can play for a judge and receive feedback on their rehearsed piece or composition. They also bring instruments to the community through hosting a “Hands on Instruments” table at local events in Riverview Park or Cathedral Square.
Full Scale students and teachers host outreach concerts in local nursing homes as a way for students to gain performance experience, and to bring music to multigenerational members of the community who may be transportation-limited.
In-school theatrical productions
Additionally, the Program’s directors are contracted by schools as far south as Bayou La Batre and as far north as Citronelle to produce the school’s musical. In December 2018, 500 Citronelle students took to the football field (stage) to produce a children’s theater musical with the world’s largest cast!
